Chamber Statement on Michigan Supreme Court Ruling on Anti-Discrimination Law

August 1, 2022

The Detroit Regional Chamber issued the following statement today following the Michigan Supreme Court ruling in the Rouch World, LLC v. Department of Civil Rights case that the state’s anti-discrimination law covers sexual orientation. This ruling will benefit the business community in making Michigan a more welcoming, inclusive state for top talent.

This ruling is a positive development for Michigan in its ongoing battle to attract and retain talent. The Chamber, alongside other business interests and leading employers, continues to call for inclusion of sexual orientation and gender identity protections in the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act. Attraction and retention of talent remains a critical concern of Michigan employers, and welcoming policies such as this help address this challenge.
