Expectations of Applicants
This checklist is designed to help you determine if you have the time, experience, and availability to be a part of the Detroit Charter Board Leadership Program and ultimately serve on a charter school board.
- I believe all children can reach the highest level of academic achievement regardless of income level, demographics, family background, etc.
- I am a seasoned professional with demonstrated success and experience in one or more relevant professional fields (e.g., finance, operations, education, law, human resources, marketing, fundraising).
- I have 3 to 6 hours a month, year-round, to devote to board service.
- I can commit to being highly responsive (generally within a day or two) to emails from school leadership, legal counsel, fellow board members.
- I can commit to attending board meetings (typically once a month or once every other month) and committee meetings, if applicable (the same) and am willing to make a concerted effort to avoid missing meetings.
- I would welcome the opportunity to serve as an ambassador for the school, telling my friends and colleagues about the school and its mission.
