PlanetM Landing Zone Virtual Mobility Meetup with Mark de la Vergne

May 11, 2020
PlanetM Landing Zone hosted its first virtual Mobility Meetup with guest speaker Mark de la Vergne, Chief of Mobility Innovation for the City of Detroit. Director of the Landing Zone Devon O’Reilly spoke with a Vergne on Detroit’s current projects to increase mobility access for its residents.

Right now, the City of Detroit is providing rides to the Michigan State Fairgrounds testing site for Detroit residents. The city is completing around 50 rides a day, increasing accessibility to testing for those that need it.

“Testing has been at the forefront of our overall strategy,” said La Vergne. Increasing mobility access was essential to ensure everyone who needs to get tested can do so, he added.

The city is also looking into how to help essential workers who need access to transportation. Personal modes of transportation are going to be more widely used than public to help prevent further spread of the virus, said La Vergne. That’s why the city will soon be announcing a partnership to increase access to bikes and scooters for essential workers.
