Detroit Regional Chamber’s Political Action Committee Unanimously Endorses Governor Rick Snyder in November Gubernatorial Election

DETROIT, February 24, 2014 Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Political Action Committee (PAC) Board of Directors announced its unanimous endorsement of Governor Rick Snyder in Michigan’s gubernatorial election in November.

“The past four years have been filled with tough decisions and Governor Snyder hasn’t flinched, overhauling Michigan’s business climate and bolstering its global competitiveness,” said Sandy K. Baruah, president and CEO, Detroit Regional Chamber. “From the New International Trade Crossing to Detroit’s bankruptcy, he’s demonstrated bold leadership no matter the political consequences. Through a pragmatic, results-oriented approach to government, he has transformed Michigan into a national model for government effectiveness.”

After careful consideration, the Chamber PAC Board of Directors that were present made the endorsement based on in-person interviews with both Governor Snyder and Democratic candidate Mark Schauer, and input from PAC Board members. The Chamber PAC Board of Directors regularly meets to identify and support pro-growth candidates and policies that support the Chamber’s public policy priorities.

“Mr. Schauer’s record of public service is admirable and we applaud his effort in providing voters with two quality candidates,” said Brad Williams, vice president of government relations, Detroit Regional Chamber. “However, since taking office, Governor Snyder has dramatically reinvented this state and proven without a doubt that he is the right person to lead Michigan for four more years.”

In 2010, the Chamber was the only business organization to endorse then-gubernatorial candidate Snyder in the Republican primary, with that support continuing through the general election. Since Governor Snyder took office, he has led the way on key Chamber priorities including the New International Trade Crossing, repeal of the Michigan Business Tax and Medicaid expansion.

With a long-standing record of supporting candidates on both sides of the aisle who support a pro-growth agenda, the Chamber’s PAC endorsement remains one of the most sought-after endorsements in Michigan politics.
