George Jackson

President and CEO, Detroit Economic Growth Corporation

George Jackson Jr. is the president and CEO of Detroit Economic Growth Corporation (DEGC), a private, nonprofit corporation devoted to supporting Detroit’s economic development projects and initiatives. Since his tenure began in 2002, DEGC has attracted national and international recognition for the success it has had negotiating major redevelopment deals, attracting and retaining businesses.

Jackson also serves as the professional and administrative staff for the Downtown Development Authority, the Economic Development Corporation of the City of Detroit, Tax Increment Finance Authority, and Detroit Brownfield Redevelopment Authority.

Jackson’s additional responsibilities include his post as the chief development officer for the city of Detroit from 2006 to 2010, serving as chairman of the NextEnergy Corporation, and his 27-year career as the director of customer marketing for DTE Energy.

Jackson has a bachelor’s degree in human resource development from Oakland University and a master’s degree in business management from Central Michigan University.
