Grant Application Open: Oakland Together Small Business Recovery Fund

Earlier this week, Oakland County launched the $32 million Oakland Together Small Business Recovery Grant fund. The money appropriated by the Coronavirus Aid Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act, is being authorized to the County from the state’s $100 million Michigan Strategic Fund announced last week.

Oakland County has opened up the grant application, with a deadline of Aug. 24, 2020, to retail stores, restaurants, salons, gyms, and more.

“We know that many of our small businesses have reopened but the losses they suffered while they were closed or operating at reduced capacity are significant and continue to threaten their viability,” Oakland County Executive David Coulter said in the release. “We want to do all we can to help them recover and continue to provide the goods and services that are so important to our residents.”

Application information can be found below and found at  Qualified businesses must have a physical location in Oakland County, Mich. Additionally, businesses must have 100 employees or fewer and have documented loss of revenue due to shutdowns from the COVID-19 pandemic.

The funds will help retail stores, restaurants, and personal service businesses such as salons and fitness centers that were impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. Eligible businesses have suffered actual or anticipated losses from March 2020 through July 2020 including loss of revenue, operating at a reduced level of production, sales, employment, or service, or were fully closed all operations and are now in the process of reopening.

Michigan Small Business Restart Grant Program will work with statewide economic development organizations (EDOs) to award grants to qualifying small businesses in need of assistance with payroll, rent, mortgage payments, as well as utilities and other expenses.

Participating EDOs in Southeast Michigan include:

  • Flint & Genesee Chamber – $8,045,455
  • Ann Arbor Spark – $8,545,455
  • Oakland County – $11,045,455
  • Macomb County – $7,545,455
  • Detroit Economic Growth Corporation – $15,545,450
