Letter: Chamber Calls on Michigan Congressional Delegation for Business Support as Pandemic Orders Extended

December 9, 2020
Earlier this week, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer announced an extension of the three-week Pause to Save Lives issued by the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services for an additional 12 days, with restrictions remaining through Dec. 20. The extension of this pause is in light of spikes in COVID-19 cases, hospitalizations, and deaths driven by a combination of colder weather and holiday socialization and will pose increased challenges to our already struggling regional businesses.

In an open letter sent to the Michigan Congressional Delegation Tuesday, Dec. 8, the Detroit Regional Chamber called on them to immediately work together and compromise on bipartisan COVID-19 relief legislation. The public health and economic crises created by COVID-19 go hand-in-hand. The responsibility now lies with Congress to provide the much-needed relief to businesses, individuals, and states across the nation to survive the economic crisis.
