Macomb County Celebrates Business Community’s Impact on Economic Growth

By Daniel Lai

Six Macomb County businesses were honored in grand fashion during the fifth annual Macomb Business Awards on Tuesday. The awards recognize organizations that strive to build a strong workforce, expand their market share, achieve efficiency, embrace diversity and are good neighbors. In total, 52 businesses were nominated by their peers.

This year’s award recipients included:

  • Champion of Workforce Development: R&E Automated Systems
  • Corporate Citizen: Binson’s Medical Equipment and Supplies
  • Diversification Leader: Baker Industries
  • Efficiency Expert: JEM Tech Group
  • Model of OneMacomb: Arts Academy in the Woods
  • Startup Business to Watch: United Shore Professional Baseball League

In addition, Macomb/St. Clair Michigan Works was named the 2017 Economic Development Partner of the Year by the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development.

In delivering his keynote remarks, Richard Sheridan, founder and CEO of Menlo Innovations, encouraged business leaders to create an engaged workforce by cultivating a culture that values both customers and employees.

“The most important question a leader can ask of his or her company is, ‘who do we serve?’” Sheridan said. “We don’t think of our company the same way we think of our customers. We have to keep our attention focused externally but shape the company internally to match that focus.”
