Michael Nutter

Michael Nutter is a professor of professional practice in urban and public affairs at the Columbia School of International and Public Affairs. Nutter is also a former mayor and city councilman for the city of Philadelphia. Since leaving public office in 2016, he has remained active in public policy, government and civic life. Nutter maintains active involvement in critical areas of education, media, public policy, political campaigns, the corporate community and academic institutions across the country.

While serving as mayor, Nutter made significant progress on lowering the city’s homicide rate to an almost 50-year low, while increasing high school graduation and college degree attainment rates.  He actively recruited businesses both domestically and internationally with tax reforms, better business services and international trade missions.

Nutter previously served as president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors and focused on strengthening federal-city relationships and promoting the development of effective national urban policy.
