Osamu_NagataOsamu Nagata is the president and CEO of Toyota Motor Engineering and Manufacturing North America, Inc. (TEMA), where he leads Toyota’s North American manufacturing and engineering operations. He also is senior vice president, Toyota Motor North America, Inc. (TMA) and managing officer, Toyota Motor Corporation (TMC).

In response to the product safety recalls in 2010, TMC President Akio Toyoda named Nagata to lead a temporary task force to improve communications with all stakeholders globally, including consumers and regulators. As head of the task force, called the BR (Business Reform) Communication Kaizen Department, he reported directly to Toyoda. He also served as primary support for Toyoda during the recall, including support around the congressional hearings.

In April 2011, Nagata was named deputy chief officer of TMC’s External Affairs Group, which covers external relationships worldwide.  As part of that work, he contributed to the establishment of the North American Quality Advisory Panel (NAQAP) that is led by former U.S. Department of Transportation Secretary Rodney Slater. Nagata played an important role in coordinating and supporting the NAQAP’s safety recommendations. He also helped establish the Collaborative Safety Research Center, which works with leading North American universities, hospitals, research institutions, federal agencies and other organizations on projects aimed at reducing the number of traffic fatalities and injuries on America’s roads.
