State of Michigan Offers $8.55M in COVID-19 Workplace Safety Grants to Help Employers Protect Workers

The State of Michigan today announced the Michigan COVID-19 Safety Grant Program. The $8.55 million in grants will provide small businesses matching funds of up to $10,000 through health and safety equipment purchases or training to keep employees, customers, and communities safe from the spread of COVID-19. The grants are made available through the recent passage of SB 690.

The grant application opens Monday, July 27, and closes Friday, Aug. 7. However, applications submitted past the Aug. 7 deadline will be held if funding remains available for a second phase. Submit your application here.

Interested applicants must have fewer than 250 employees, provide a copy of their COVID-19 safety plan, as well as a description of how funds will help improve workplace safety for employees, customers, and the community.

The grant may be utilized by:

  • Purchasing engineering controls and other supplies or materials such as sneeze guards, physical barriers, face coverings, and handwashing and/or hygiene stations.
  • Purchasing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including gowns, gloves, and eye protection.
  • Training to educate employees about the spread and dangers of COVID-19.
