Success Coach, Detroit Reconnect, Detroit Regional Chamber

Penny Kane is a Success Coach for the Detroit Regional Chamber. 

She is currently working on her first memoir, “58 Months: A Collection of Essays,” a reflection of her prison experience at Women’s Huron Valley Correctional Facility in Ypsilanti, Michigan. 

Kane was named a University of Michigan-Dearborn 2022 Difference Maker for her work in social justice, civic engagement, criminal justice reform, mentoring adult/nontraditional students, and advocating for incarcerated women. 

Her work emulates her two favorite quotes: “I’m just trying to matter” and “You are not a true success unless you are helping other be successful.” 

Kane earned a Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Studies with concentrations in communications, criminology/criminal justice, and public health from the University of Michigan – Dearborn. She is now pursuing a Master of Fine Arts in creative nonfiction at Alma College.
