DETROIT (June 27, 2022) – Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber’s Political Action Committee (PAC) shared its endorsement for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District for the state’s Primary Election on Aug. 2, 2022. The choice for the 13th Congressional District is consequential for Detroiters. The Democratic primary for this new district without an incumbent is crowded. With that in mind, the Chamber PAC was unified in supporting the two best candidates for the city and region. In this significant race, the Chamber PAC believes Detroiters have two excellent choices for Congress in Sen. Adam Hollier and Portia Roberson.
“Sen. Hollier has been serving Detroiters and Americans as a member of the U.S. Army and U.S. Army Reserve and a member of the Michigan Legislature. His leadership on issues relating to economic development, public transit, and voting rights make him a promising choice for Congress,” said Brad Williams, vice president of Government Relations at the Chamber.
“Ms. Roberson’s federal government background will allow her to hit the ground running as soon as she arrives in Washington,” said Williams. “Her experience and relationships in the public, private, and philanthropic sectors provide a skill set that would be unique to Congress and benefit all Michiganders.”
Detroiters have proven time and again, given the opportunity, they will choose wisely when picking their elected officials. The Chamber PAC knows that Detroiters deserve a member of Congress who will effectively represent the city and the 13th District, earn the esteem of their colleagues, and deliver federal solutions for Detroit and Wayne County. Both Hollier and Roberson – who are Detroiters themselves – fit that bill. The business community looks forward to partnering with its neighbors in the new 13th District and its new member of Congress.
The Chamber PAC’s endorsement for Michigan’s 13th Congressional District is the first in a series of endorsements that will be made for the Michigan Primary Election on Aug. 2, 2022.
The Chamber PAC Board of Directors regularly meets to identify and support pro-business candidates and policies that support the Chamber’s public policy priorities. After careful consideration, the Chamber PAC Board makes its endorsements based on responses to a Chamber PAC survey, input from Chamber PAC members, and individual interactions. The Chamber PAC Board comprises business leaders representing bipartisan views and reflecting industry, business size, and location diversity. The Chamber PAC historically makes bipartisan endorsements based on alignment with the Chamber’s legislative policy priorities.
