Michigan’s maximum duration of unemployment benefits in a year would be lengthened to 26 weeks from 20 under legislation approved Wednesday by the Democratic-led state House a week after its introduction.

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce, the Michigan Manufacturers Association, the Small Business Association of Michigan, the Detroit Regional Chamber and the Grand Rapids Chamber wrote a memo to House members on Tuesday voicing their opposition.
