Mayor Duggan to Keynote Detroit Policy Conference on Feb. 26

December 18, 2014
DETROIT, December 18, 2014 – Today, the Detroit Regional Chamber announced that Mayor Mike Duggan will deliver a keynote address at the 2015 Detroit Policy Conference. The fourth annual event, held on Feb. 26 at MotorCity Casino Hotel, will bring together business, community and political leaders for a day focused on the city’s new era and ongoing resurgence.

“Beyond bankruptcy there is an unprecedented opportunity to impact the trajectory and future of Detroit,” said Chamber President and CEO Sandy K. Baruah. “For the first time in a long time the city has a sustainable fiscal path forward, but a lot of hard work remains. The Detroit Policy Conference provides the perfect stage to chart out the next steps of how the public and private sectors can work together toward the common goal of making Detroit the best possible city.”

The Conference will take place less than 12 weeks after the city officially emerged from bankruptcy and will focus on continuing Detroit’s momentum. The agenda will feature main stage programming highlighting issues key to Detroit’s resurgence with concurrent breakout sessions focused on issues such as education, neighborhood revitalization and transportation.

Mayor Duggan will kick off the conversation with remarks at the opening of the Conference. Since taking office in January, the Mayor has spearheaded efforts to tackle key challenges facing Detroit, including a strategy to address the city’s ongoing blight problem, the establishment of a Department of Neighborhoods office in each of the seven city council districts, and the improvement of city lighting and EMS response times.

“Mayor Mike Duggan and his team are working around the clock and getting results,” Baruah said. “Under the Mayor’s leadership, things are changing for the better – reduced blight, increased lighting and safer streets. The Mayor will have the stage to help inform the dialogue about how the region can work together to meet the challenges ahead.”
