Recognition of Daniel J. Loepp

May 30, 2024

Daniel J. Loepp, President and Chief Executive Officer of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan (BCBSM), was recognized for his transformational career, professional accomplishments, and years-long partnership with the Chamber on stage during the 2024 Mackinac Policy Conference.

Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer Sandy K. Baruah and Gov. Gretchen Whitmer presented the recognition on May 30 in Grand Hotel’s Theatre, briefly detailing Loepp’s innovation and dedication to Michigan’s core cities throughout his career, including during his 18-year tenure at BCBSM.

“I’ve learned so much from how he treats people, works with people across the aisle, and works with a team,” Whitmer said. “Every step of the way through my career, I was able to get sage advice from my friend … I’m just so grateful for your mentorship and friendship.”

Loepp also served as an undisputed champion of the Chamber, serving as Chair of the 2007 Mackinac Policy Conference and the Chamber’s Board of Directors from 2007 to 2008. He also served as a formable presence on the selection committee that hired Baruah as Chamber President and Chief Executive Officer in 2010.

“Dan has been a constant reminder to me of what greatness looks like … as a corporate [and] community leader,” Baruah said. “it’s the quiet community leadership that’s been so critical. Dan has been a champion of doing things better, together, and collaboratively.”

During the Conference, attendees were given challenge coins featuring Loepp, along with Sandy Pierce and Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI), who were also honored for their esteemed careers and partnership. These challenge coins were designed as reminders to be inspired by these leaders’ characters when doing business.
