Educational Attainment

Educational attainment refers to the highest level of education that an individual has completed. The population with an associate degree or higher in the Detroit Region has continues to rise over the past five years. Despite the Region’s educational attainment rate increasing by 4.2 percentage points from 2016 to 2021, Detroit continues to lag behind peer regions and the national average. The Region’s attainment rate includes 9.1% of the adult population with an associate degree, 20.4% with a bachelor’s degree, and 13.8% with a graduate or professional degree. Over 1.3 million residents in the Detroit Region have earned an associate degree or higher.
