Warren Evans is the fourth Executive for Wayne County, Michigan. A public servant in Wayne County for more than four decades, Evans has established a reputation for achieving results through efficiency, innovation, and strategic collaboration.
Since taking office in 2015, Evans and his team generated Wayne County’s first general fund surplus in eight years by implementing a fiscal recovery plan that eliminated the county’s $82 million accumulated deficit and its $52 million structural deficit. His administration reduced Wayne County’s unfunded health care liabilities by nearly $1 billion. They also negotiated new contracts with the county’s labor unions. The National Organization of Black County Officials (NOBCO) recently recognized Evans as its 2016 County Executive of the Year for his work to turn around the county’s finances.
Prior to being elected executive, Evans was appointed Sheriff in 2003 and elected to a full term in 2004 and re-elected in 2008. He previously served as Assistant County Executive, Chief of Special Operations in the Wayne County Prosecutor’s office and as the Director of Administration for the Wayne County Board of Commissioners.
