Gucci Awards Two Detroit-Based Recipients in Annual Changemakers Funds

August 17, 2022

Luxury fashion brand Gucci included two Detroit-based recipients in the third cohort for its North American Changemakers Scholarship program and Impact Fund after receiving hundreds of applications nationwide.

For the third year in a row, College for Creative Studies student Miles Richards was one of 12 chosen for this year’s Gucci Changemakers Scholarship program, a $1.5 million scholarship fund focused on diverse undergraduate students pursuing careers within fashion, humanities, or the arts. In addition to his $20,000 academic scholarship, the Cass Tech alumnus will receive mentorship from and virtual internship opportunities with Gucci America.

“After being granted the opportunity to be one of the recipients of the Gucci Changemakers Scholars award, I found an unbelievable amount of stress taken off my shoulders,” Richards said last year. “And without a shadow of a doubt, the program provided me with the creative freedom to express myself without the burden of tuition during my first year as an art major.”

A celebration for Richards and the rest of the cohort will occur during a multi-media exhibition at the Museum of Contemporary Art Detroit this September.

Further, the Mosaic Youth Theatre of Detroit was one of 12 selected for the third round of recipients for the Gucci North America Changemakers Impact Fund, which focuses on nonprofits that provide creative, economic, and mental health services to diverse communities. As a result, Mosaic Youth Theatre will have the opportunity to engage in volunteer activities with Gucci employees, participate in Town Hall conversations with Gucci leadership, and additional programming with Gucci’s North America Brand and Culture Engagement team.

Since its launch in 2019, Gucci Changemakers Scholarship Program and Impact Fund have invested almost $3 million in multi-year grant funding to organizations and students working to promote social good in diverse communities throughout North America.
