As companies based in the City of Detroit and surrounding areas continue to invest in the fast-growing technology sector, it is important to ensure that Black American tech talent is represented in this sector via entry-level employment, management, and leadership roles. Businesses risk billions if Black professionals continue to be underrepresented in tech jobs. Closing the gap means making changes to education, recruiting, and retention initiatives.
To address this, Detroit Regional Chamber Board member Aaron Aboagye led the creation of the recently launched Detroit / Metro Black Tech Talent Survey through his firm, McKinsey & Co. It aims to assess the attraction and retention of Black tech talent today and understand any leakage points in the talent supply funnel. Survey participants represent a large array of diverse companies in the Metro Detroit Region across various industries.
The anonymous results will be shared at the Detroit Black Executive Summit in September 2024, where an action-focused agenda will provide opportunities for industry participants to discuss how to ensure the Detroit-area tech industry remains equitable into the future.
This survey was developed for mid- to large-size employers.
