Detroit — President Joe Biden will tour the Detroit Auto Show and deliver a speech Wednesday afternoon on the auto industry’s transition to electric vehicles.

His address, scheduled for 1:45 p.m., will focus on how “his auto vision and leadership” has put the United States on the path to lead the future global electric vehicle market, according to White House officials.

Biden also is expected to announce $900 million in grants for EV chargers across 35 states, the White House said, the first round of $5 billion in funding appropriated through the bipartisan infrastructure law.

Several members of Michigan’s delegation, including Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Lansing, Rep. Fred Upton, R-St. Joseph, Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Waterford Township, and Rep. Brenda Lawrence, D-Southfield, will travel to Detroit on Wednesday morning with Biden on Air Force One.
