Safety Tips: Carryout and Delivery

Many restaurants in the Detroit region are still open for business during COVID-19 and are ready to take your order. If you’re worried about catching COVID-19 from ordering food, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention attests that there is currently no evidence to connect the spread of COVID-19 with food. However, there are a few steps you can take as precautions:

Maintain a safe distance when receiving your food

Many restaurants and delivery services have implemented measures to ensure the safety of their customers and employees. Stay aware and consider the ways you’re can ensure a six-foot distance between yourself and others. This could mean having your delivery left on your doorstep or using the drive-through instead of going into the restaurant.

Dispose of any outer packaging

More hands are going to touch the outer packaging of your food than the food itself. Throw out any outer packaging before you dig in and use your own dishes at home.

Wash your hands before eating

After you’ve touched the packaging, make sure to wash your hands for at least 20 seconds. It’s important to wash your hands every time before you eat.
