Black-Owned Natural Beauty Brand Creates Unique Handmade Products for Detroiters

August 12, 2021
At the Detroit Regional Chamber’s 2021 Detroit Policy Conference, the perseverance and future of small businesses in the region was a leading topic. Many local business owners shared how they strategically navigated the challenges of the pandemic and what they project for the future of local small businesses. Small business vendors also showcased their products at the Detroit Small Business Street exhibit and shared their stories with the Chamber.

Many of the small businesses interviewed were Black-owned, and in recognition of National Black Business Month, the Chamber is sharing a series of blog posts to learn more about each business.

Among those vendors was Body Zeal, a Black-owned natural beauty brand in Detroit. They sell handmade body scrubs, body butters, lip balms, hair grease, soy candles, bath bombs, bath salts, and more.

Founder Jocelyn Moss shared with the Chamber that the company caters its products to individual customers because not everybody (or their skin) is the same.

“We do things to cater to each and every individual. Everybody is not the same, so we don’t treat everyone like the same. Every product we make caters to whatever you may have… if you have psoriasis, eczema, [or] if you’re a cancer patient going through chemo. We have things that treat that as well,” Moss said.

When shopping on Body Zeal’s website, you can filter your search by product or concern. Currently, their concern options include acne, dandruff, dry and chapped lips, eczema, exfoliation, psoriasis, sore muscles, and hair thinning.

If you cannot find a product that fits your skin or aren’t sure what would work for you, Moss encourages you to contact Body Zeal. You can reach them on their website, Facebook, TikTok, and Instagram.
