Hernández has over 20 years of experience in higher education, most recently serving as director of enrollment and Title IX coordinator at Concordia University – Ann Arbor. He has also held positions at Madonna University, The University of Michigan and Eastern Michigan University in corporate compliance, student conduct and first-year experience programs. Hernández is an adjunct faculty member at Concordia University in the student personnel in higher education program teaching graduate-level courses on legal issues and administrative leadership in higher education.

Hernández earned a Master of Arts from Bowling Green State University and a Bachelor of Arts from Eastern Michigan University.
