Brooks Kushman Hires Four Associates as Patent Prosecution and Litigation Practices Grow

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – Brooks Kushman P.C. – a nationally ranked intellectual property and technology law firm – recently hired four new associates based at the firm’s Southfield, Mich. office. The announcement was made by Mark Cantor, president of the firm.

The four new attorneys include:

Reid A. Baldwin, Ph.D. –Baldwin will join Brooks Kushman’s patent prosecution team. He has worked with clients of all sizes, in a wide variety of industries, in the mechanical, electrical and software arts. Baldwin earned a Juris Doctor degree from Michigan State University in Lansing, Mich., a Ph.D. in computer science from Michigan State University and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY.;

Todd W. Dishman – Specializing in patent prosecution and litigation matters, Dishman’s practice is centered on the mechanical and electromechanical arts. He earned a Juris Doctor degree and graduated magna cum laude from the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit and a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering from Michigan State University. Prior to joining Brooks Kushman, Todd worked for an automotive OEM for 10 years as a design engineer for body systems, body structures, closures, sealing and electromechanical hardware.;

Chamber Recruits Participants for Goldman Sachs’ 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative

The Detroit Regional Chamber will serve as a regional launch partner of the Initiative for Competitive Inner City (ICIC) and Goldman Sachs, working to promote Goldman’s 10,000 Small Businesses Initiative and recruit local businesses to apply for the program. One of the Chamber’s recruits, Detroit’s Edibles Rex, has received early admission into the program’s first cohort, which will begin classes in early 2014. Detroit became the 17th U.S. city to join the initiative, a program that provides participating small businesses with a variety of tools to grow their operations, such as capital, mentorships, education and networking.

Leaders of the initiative – including ICIC founder and Harvard Business School professor Michael Porter, Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd C. Chamber’s Bankruptcy Public Relations Efforts Recognized by International MarCom Award

The Association of Marketing and Communication Professionals awarded the Detroit Regional Chamber and Tanner Friedman Strategic Communications for its response to the Detroit bankruptcy. The public relations campaign earned a platinum award, as it resulted in local and national news coverage offering a more complete picture of Detroit’s bankruptcy. Lawrence Technological University Makes U.S. News’ List of Best Colleges for Veterans

U.S. News & World Report recently released its inaugural rankings of the Best Colleges for Veterans, and Lawrence Technological University (LTU) was listed at No. 18 in the Midwest Regional Universities category. Butzel Long attorney receives Power Players Award from Washington, D.C. SmartCEO magazine; Efe Poturoglu accepts award in immigration law category

Auburn Hills announces 2013 employee of the year

Auburn Hills, Mich.—Nov. 21, 2013— Auburn Hills announced that Jeramey Peters has been named the city’s employee of the year for 2013. Peters is a public safety officer and has been with the city since 2004. He and other nominees were honored at an employee lunch on Nov. 18.

Auburn Hills has 165 full-time staff. The employee of the year award began in 2012 to recognize outstanding contributions by city employees.
